Week 9: Look After Your Team Through the Rush

The final stretch before December is where burnout risk starts to build. Long shifts, back-to-back busy days and the pressure of getting everything right can wear a team down fast, right when you need them most.

1. Keep rostering fair and realistic

Avoid stacking your best staff with every long shift just because they're reliable. Spread the load where you can, and build in rest breaks that actually happen, not just ones that exist on paper.

2. Communicate clearly

A team that knows what's expected, what the plan is for the busiest days, and where to go with questions, copes far better under pressure than one left to guess. Clear, simple communication matters more now than at any other time of year.

3. Recognise the effort

A genuine thank you, a small gesture, or simply acknowledging how hard the team has worked goes a long way during a tough stretch. It doesn't need to be a big gesture to make a real difference.
