Exciting news from the 2024 World Barista Championships! Honoka Kawashima, from Frank’s Coffee in Wellington, represented New Zealand at the World Barista Champs in Busan over the weekend, has been placed 4th overall out of 55 competitors.

The completion was over 3 days and 3 rounds. Competitors all participate in the first round and then the numbers whittle down until it is just the top seven baristas in the world holding their trophy’s.

After competing in round one where she showcased her talent and skill, Honoka placed 9th going on to compete in the Semi Final Round. Here she competed alongside 16 other competitors, vying for a spot in the final. The competition was intense, with only the best of the best making it to the final round.

Her performance was simple, yet clearly articulated the story of her coffee and her depth of understanding. Her passion and love for what she does shone brightly as she performed with total grace on stage.

Honoka’s 4th placing at the World Barista Champs is nothing short of remarkable. We are so proud of her amazing result and are thrilled to be able to support her, and the incredible talent within New Zealand’s specialty coffee community.
