Founded as a boutique roastery café in Wellington by Steve and Julie Gianoutsos in 2003, Mojo Coffee is now one of New Zealand’s most experienced independent coffee roasters, café operators and wholesale suppliers.

Starting from humble beginnings on Wakefield Street, Mojo has grown like a family, working with passionate individuals along the way. We now own and operate 33 cafes in both Wellington and Auckland. We supply over 100 independent cafes around the country with coffee, machinery, training and support and sell specialty coffee direct to customers via our online store.

Excellent coffee is never a rational thing; it's a drink imbued with inspiration, freedom, celebration, history, dreams. It's about experience as much as refreshment. It's about personal space, about the pursuit of perfection, about the meeting of minds, about escape and reward. That's the Mojo and it's to treasure.

What is your most popular dish?

We are pretty well known for our chilli cheese scone. It’s the perfect accompaniment to your morning coffee.

What are your favourites from the menu?

Our menu is constantly changing. Our dedicated pantry team are always trying to improve and update our food offering. By using seasonal and local produce we can keep things fresh and interesting. It’s hard to beat the Avo on toast though.

What makes the coffee at Mojo so special?

We only buy specialty grade coffee. That along with our experienced team of roasters, trainers, baristas and coffee experts we make sure every cup of Mojo coffee is consistent and delicious. We have a range of different coffees that cover a range of different flavour profiles. With 3 blends, decaf and a rotating Single Origin programme where we specialise in micro lot coffees from different farms around the world, we are sure there is a coffee at Mojo for everyone.

Can you share any advice for others starting out in the hospitality industry?

Positive attitude is everything, give your customers an experience they will come back for and that you are proud of, always work as a team. Strive to be the best.

Tell us more about the barista training and team building you offer.

Mojo offers a wide range of barista training, one on one sessions with our trainers, corporate team building sessions, barista and hospitality group training over 3 days for those wanting to enter the industry and training for our up and coming baristas at schools NCEA Levels 2 and 3.

We are all about fun while you are learning, being passionate about our industry and product.

Corporate training is always fun, watching the team take in what their local barista is doing all while engaging with them. They get a true appreciation of the skill that is needed in providing that perfect coffee. We always finish these sessions off with a latte art throwdown, great fun for everyone including the trainers, the competitiveness is through the roof.
