We interviewed one of the most integral members of the Research & Development Team at Goodman Fielder.

Dr Rhodi Bulloch

What is your role at Goodman Fielder and what does it entail?
I am a Regulatory manager.

My key responsibility is to ensure that our products and our communications comply with the relevant ANZ Food Standards and the NZ Commerce Commission. Therefore, I ensure that all our claims, food labelling, nutritional information and any marketing that exhibits the goodness of our products, all comply with the regulations and are not misleading in any form whatsoever.

For example, our Meadow Fresh Kalo Greek Yoghurt claims to be high in protein. Therefore, I need to ensure that the protein levels in this product are sufficient according to the ANZ Food Standards to legally be considered high in protein!

How long have you been at Goodman Fielder?
Around 9 months and loving it!

What do you love about working at Goodman Fielder?
The people. Being able to work cross functionally and collaborate with various teams, is great.

I work closely with the R&D team in New Zealand, my counterparts in Australia and Singapore and the Legal team we have at Goodman Fielder. We work hard to ensure Goodman Fielder products are as they say!

Of course, the fun bits of working with the marketing team and tasting new products, is always a cherry on top!

What was your background before Goodman Fielder and where does the ‘Dr’ in your name come from?

I was in various Regulatory roles and also practiced as a clinical dietician over the years.

To name a few stints, I transitioned into public health nutrition and worked for The Heart Foundation, for several years. I also went to The University of Auckland to train student nutritionists and dieticians.

In terms of where the ‘Dr’ in my name came from, I did a PhD in Folic Acid Supplementation in pregnancy. This was a full circle, as the government officialises that all flour for bread making must include folic acid – FYI our baked goods comply!

A background in all these different nutritional based roles helps with my current role, as having a toolkit with theoretical knowledge against the Food Standards is super helpful.
